Dutch Peters Tree

from £40.00

I decided to call this image Dutch Peter’s Tree after a regular customer of a gallery that exhibits my work. Peter, who was, you guessed it, Dutch, brought this image on his last visit to the gallery before returning to Holland. It was a housewarming present he’d decided to buy for himself. Whenever I see it, I remember him.

The photograph was taken in a plantation of trees grown for timber. Such plantations typically offer little variation—row after row of the same species, uniform in height and colour. While these scenes can provide striking photographic opportunities depending on the light, what truly captivates me are moments like this, where an unexpected visitor has taken root. In this case, a tree with vibrant yellow foliage stands in stark contrast to the darker greens surrounding it, quietly asserting its difference among the locals.
